"Women need good representation in cinema" - says Bhumi Pednekar

Bhumi Pednekar has shown that she is inclined to choose social entertainers that win big at the box office. The versatile actress, through her outstanding performances in films like Toilet - Ek Prem Katha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Bala, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare, Lust Stories, etc, has shown her inclination to represent women to be real on screen. Bhumi feels the industry still stereotypes women and she gets quite affected by it.

“I often choose films that have a strong social message but I also think of picking projects that will do commercially well. This is important because such films need to reach out to a lot of people to drive home the message and intent. I try going for cinema that kind of balances both,” says Bhumi.

She adds, “When you think about Toilet, it is one of my most commercial socially relevant films. But the kind of reach the film had or the kind of impact the film had I was amazed. After the movie released, there were campaigns where fathers and mothers were at the forefront saying no Toilet no bride. That was honestly fantastic.”

Bhumi further says, “Ayushmann Khurrana and I did a film together – Shubh Mangal Saavdhan that speaks of human sexuality, and that is something that is not spoken about. I did Lust Stories that speak about the gender gap, class divide, and woman sexuality which is something that is not spoken at all. Women are shown as people that have no desires – no ambition, no sexual desires and that is something I again want to change.”

Bhumi wants to keep picking films that change the narrative of the representation of women in cinema. She says, “Through my cinema, I try in portraying women that exist, women that are real. Women need good representation in cinema. I see women not having the correct representation on screen. It really affects me.”

Upon collaborating with Anil Kapoor again after Dil Dhadakne Do, Ranveer Singh shared some moments from the shoot. Anil Kapoor is dressed in a sharp shoot whereas Ranveer is seen donning a blue shirt and trousers.

Krushna Abhishek says his comments about his uncle Govinda are often blown out of proportion

Actor-comedian Krushna Abhishek is often in news for his troubled relationship with his uncle actor Govinda and his wife. While their comments in each other often make headlines, Krushna said that his words are often blown out of proportion.

Talking to a news agency, Krushna said that it has happened many times that when he talks about his mama (uncle) only part of it is picked and blown out of proportion. Giving an example he said that if he says something on the lines of, ‘I love Govinda but why is he doing this with me’, then only the latter part is used and becomes a headline.

Krushna said that such things upset him. He said that it leads to a miscommunication even if a normal comment is made. He further said that even small things are blown out of proportion.

Krushna revealed that the incident with his mama is not the only one. He said that he once had an issue with John Abraham and at that time the actual thing never reached John.

Debuts are always special, no matter the platforms. But in the last year, streaming platforms have managed to get the maximum attention and new discoveries thanks to the lockdown. 1. Kapil Sharma
While his The Kapil Sharma Show is on hold, the actor-comedian is gearing up for new innings on a new platform. His comedy special with Netflix has been announced by the actor himself. Although it's not known when it will stream, his fans are definitely kicked about it.

2. Shahid Kapoor
There are strong rumours that Shahid Kapoor will be part of a web-series penned by Raj Nidmoru and Krishna DK. While there's no confirmation, the actor did share a picture of himself with the director duo a few months back. That's enough to fuel the speculations further.

3. Madhuri Dixit
In Netflix's line-up of content for 2021 this year, we saw Madhuri Dixit in one of the web series. It is titled Finding Anamika where Madhuri plays an actress. She confirmed the same on her Instagram handle.

4. Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha is collaborating with Reema Kagti for an Amazon Prime Video series that is yet untitled. A sneak peek of the same was revealed on Women's Day this year. Sonakshi as a cop looks quite determined to bring down crime!

5. Juhi Chawla
Amazon Prime Video is getting a host of actresses for Hush Hush, which is a working title. It includes Juhi Chawla along with Ayesha Jhulka, Shahana Goswami and many more.

6. Hrithik Roshan
Rumour mills are abuzz that Hrithik Roshan will be part of the Indian adaptation of Night Manager. Now that will be one sight to behold. This will be a web series but it isn't clear which platform it will stream on.

7. Soha Ali Khan
Alongside Juhi, Ayesha Jhulka, and Shahana Goswami another name who will feature in Hush Hush is Soha Ali Khan.

"I think learning for an artist never stops" - says Rani Mukerji on completing 25 years

Bollywood star Rani Mukerji completes 25 years in the Indian film industry this year. Her incredibly successful career is punctuated by stellar, award-winning performances and Rani has surely given Indian cinema some of the most iconic and powerful women on screen. For the huge icon of Indian cinema, her 25-year journey has been about constant learning.

Rani says, “My biggest learning has been to keep learning. This has been my biggest learning. I think learning for an artist never stops. So, for me, my biggest learning has been to just focus on work and continue to do that with utmost sincerity.”

She credits the support of her fans to be a huge pillar of strength. “Without my fans, I would not have been able to survive, especially with the kind of prejudices a married actress with a baby has to go through. The fact that they have supported me throughout is nothing short of a miracle and that’s why I’m still working and doing relevant work,” she says.

About her miracle run at the box office with her huge blockbusters and her epic performances, Rani says, “When I think of the number of years, it seems like a very long time but honestly for me it just seems like my journey has never stopped. It’s just gone on and on since the day I was 16 and started working. Now, 25 years feels the same because the struggle is yet on, learning is still on as an actor. There is a lot that I have to accomplish, there is a lot that I have to learn.”

She adds, “For an actor, learning never stops and the more experience I have with different directors, different technicians, different co-stars, I get to learn a lot. It still feels nice and I am raring to go because with each film, I kind of discover a new me and I love telling stories - important stories, powerful women stories.”

Rani will be next seen in the hugely anticipated Bunty Aur Babli 2 and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, a true story that sees her take on a country for her family.
