EXCLUSIVE: Kumar Sanu reveals why he does not sing much now and how the Bollywood music scenario has changed

Each year we see a list of top hits from the world of music that entertain and captivate the audience. But there is always change in the music format that pleases the masses. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, veteran musician Kumar Sanu spoke about how times have changed and how the music scenario has changed in Bollywood as well.

Kumar Sanu started off by answering the question, ‘Why does he not sing anymore?’, Sanu was quick to say, “I cannot answer that question. It all depends on public choice, but then this statement also is untrue since people ask me the same question you have. I think that today in our industry there is a new system that is running now. Some lobbies and groups of people that get work done from only those musicians they know.”

Further talking about how the music scenario in Bollywood has changed, Kumar Sanu continued, “If you look at it, people no longer take money to sing, instead they pay to sing. This system that is currently running in the industry is wrong. I for one will charge to sing; I have put in a lot of effort and gone through hardship to get where I am, so that gives me the right to ask for a fee. But I guess that is maybe why I am not taken on board to sing.”

When asked for more details of such cases where people have paid to sing, Sanu clarifies, “It isn’t money exactly that changes hands, but yes I have heard of cases where singers give gifts or such things to better their chance of being roped in as a singer. And this system is what is wrong.”
