Hollywood legend Christopher Plummer, who became the oldest actor to receive an Oscar in 2012, passed away on Friday, February 5 at the age of 91. Christopher died at his Connecticut home as his wife Elaine Taylor was by his side.
“Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self-deprecating humor and the music of words," Lou Pitt, his manager of 46 years, revealed in a statement, via The Hollywood Reporter. "He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us."
Known for his performances in movies and theatre, he was popularly remembered as Captain Von Trapp when she starred opposite Julie Andrews in the 1965 movie The Sound of Music.
Hollywood stars including Knives Out cast Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana De Armas and Sebastian Stan, Kathy Bates, William Shatner, and many more took to social media to pay tribute.
This is truly heartbreaking. What an unbelievable loss. Few careers have such longevity and impact. One of my favorite memories from Knives Out was playing piano together in the Thrombey house between set ups. He was a lovely man and a legendary talent. ???????????? https://t.co/eFwNVe762w

In early 2006 I had lunch with Lord Richard Attenborough, Shirley MacLaine and one of the most distinguished Canadians ever, Mr. Christopher Plummer. He was so kind and helpful. The man is a legend. He should be on Canadian currency. pic.twitter.com/lYoiapvWBt

#ChristopherPlummer. I had the pleasure of working with Christopher and crossing swords with him in Dolores Claiborne. A true craftsman. One of the greats. A lovely human being. “Good night, sweet prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”

One of the many reasons to love #ChristopherPlummer.
We watched the #SoundOfMusic so much when I was a boy that he and the Von Trapps felt like family. Rest In Peace, legend. ???????? https://t.co/Nc1EfvFQ7q— Daniel Dae Kim (@danieldaekim) February 5, 2021

The Sound of Music is a sad one today as Christopher Plummer has left us today. He was giant of stage and screen, winner of an Academy Award for “Beginners.” He died at age 91 with his wife of 53 years, Elaine Taylor, by his side. Rest in eternal music, Captain Von Trapp.
