Actress Sandeepa Dhar who made her acting debut in 2010 with Isi Life Mein along with Akshay Oberoi has made a name for herself with her performance in the digital space. The actress who recently wrapped up Vikram Bhatt’s Dirty Games will soon start shooting for an upcoming Netflix series and feels it is her perfect debut on Netflix.
Talking to Bollywood Hungama about her upcoming Netflix project, Sandeepa said, “I can only say that I am doing it and I am excited about the fact that this story is going to be my debut with Netflix. It is a story based out of Lucknow and has an amazing set of cast which I cannot talk about but really good actors. I have already started preparing for it and I am going to start shooting soon.”
Talking about how big a game changer OTT has been in her professional life, Sandeepa said, “Big time! The reason I am doing all this work is because it is in the digital space. And the best content I could see out there was being made for digital platforms. Makers and creators have realized that now you just need good stories and actors and it is not just about names anymore. You don't need ‘A star’ or ‘A particular surname’ to headline a series. You can have anybody from a small town or a small village in India as long as the story is good and the person is a good actor then it will work. And I am so glad that change has come about. And OTT is responsible for that change. Now you have such amazing actors out there whom you would have never probably seen if OTT had not come into being.”
Sandeepa who has been part of OTT shows like Abhay, MumBhai and the upcoming Dirty Games and a Netflix show feels that OTT has changed her career graph for the better. “Earlier when I was doing Abhay, two years ago, people were still looking down upon digital medium because they felt like films are still a bigger medium as opposed to OTT medium. But now I think everything has completely changed and now OTT has become such a huge space that everyone is investing in it. You have your superstar from Akshay to Hrithik, everyone is doing a series and they have realised the market they can cater to,” she added.
Sandeepa, who is also a trained dancer, however, has not been a part of acting projects which also require her to do song and dance sequences. Talking about the same, she said, “I do more than enough dancing and then I do these songs like the one in Kaagaz to satisfy the dancer in me. But I'd rather do films which have interesting stories and in which I have an interesting character and I have something to do and contribute as a character in a series. I prefer that. I don't want to take away from the actors who do both, because song and dance is also difficult. It is difficult to look pretty and do song and dance. It isn't easy. It's just that I concentrate on being known as an actor as opposed to a pretty girl who dances.”
